What is Counselling?
Counselling is a service that provides you with a supportive, non-judgmental and confidential environment in which to explore any emotional and psychological problems you may be having.
Where do I start?
You can either contact me by email or telephone to discuss your needs. If I feel that I am able to help you then an assessment session will be booked at the earliest mutually convenient time.
What happens in a Counselling session?
In the initial assessment session I will ask a series of question in order to obtain some background information and to get an idea of what has brought you to counselling and then we will discuss any therapeutic goals that you may have.
After the initial assessment session, the sessions will be an opportunity for you to discuss and explore what brought you to counselling. I will then use a number of skills and techniques to aid you with your presenting issue.
I will spend a lot of time actively listening whilst you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I may also introduce therapeutic exercises if it is felt that it could be useful.
How long can I expect to be in therapy?
Therapy is a personal journey; depending on your current situation therapy can last from 6 weeks to many years. Throughout the therapeutic process we will have regular review sessions to evaluate how the sessions are going.
I’m not sure exactly what I want to come for. Is it still ok to book a session?
It is perfectly ok for you to just come and explore things. Therapy does not have to be about specific issues, sometimes it can be useful to use therapy in a way that aids self-development or just reflects on life. Therapy sessions are about you and it is your time to explore whatever feels important to you.
Is counselling confidential?
Sessions are strictly confidential. However, if it is felt that you are in danger of harming yourself or someone else confidentiality will be broken. In this instance, your GP will normally be contacted, where possible this will be discussed with you first.
What will my commitment be?
Usually, sessions are held on a weekly or twice weekly basis. Like most things in life, the more you put into the therapy sessions the more you will get out of it. Often, assignments are given to clients to complete between sessions, for example, CBT sheets, keeping a journal etc.
Do you provide therapy to children?
I hold an up to date Enhance Criminal Record Certificate and have worked with children and young people since 1995. I have previously worked in the community as a Residential Social Worker and Family Support Officer for the Child Protection Team before qualifying as a Psychotherapist, Counsellor and Personal Life Coach.
Are you fully qualified?
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling or Psychotherapy, a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology ,a Diploma in Relationship & Couple Counselling and a Diploma in Life Coaching. I also attend regular training courses for my continuing professional and personal development. All certificates are on display in my consulting room and a copy will be given on request.
Are you a member of a governing body?
I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) counselling & coaching division and adhere to the BACP’s ethical framework.
How do I get telephone counselling or psychotherapy?
Please call or email me and a time will be arranged for you to call me for a full session. The assessment sessions will then be carried out in a similar way to fact-to face counselling but over the telephone. Assignments via email may be used in conjunction with the telephone counselling.
How is Life Coaching different to counselling or psychotherapy?
In counselling and psychotherapy I will help you to get to the root of the problem. This usually, involves looking to the past. Life Coaching differs in that it concentrates on the here and now and the future. During Life Coaching sessions I will help you to set goals and find constructive ways to help you achieve those goals. Areas that we may address is careers, relationships, financial, fitness, motivation, goal setting etc.

Where are you located?
I am located in South Woodford and Loughton but see clients from the surrounding areas: Loughton, Chigwell, Woodford Green, Snaresbrook, Wanstead, Chingford and Highams Park. I am a short walk from both South Woodford and Loughton tube station (central line) and both locations have parking close by.
Do you rent out consulting rooms?
Yes, I have a nicely decorated therapy room to hire in Loughton, Essex. It is located in a peaceful road, just off of the High Road. It is easily accessible by public transport and has parking close by..
